A family history
INTERSCIENCE is an independent family business that has been focusing on its own research and development since 1979. Founded by physicist François Jalenques, the company pursues a clear vision: high-quality productsinternational presence and excellent customer service. INTERSCIENCE was an early adopter of automation, for example with the spiral method for faster bacterial enumeration.
More than just technology: Jalenques founded the company in his structurally weak home region of Cantal out of social commitment, which contributed to the economic revival. Since 2012, his sons Emmanuel and Jules have been running the company in the second generation - with a focus on humanity, environmental awareness and employee loyalty.
Today, INTERSCIENCE employs around 130 people worldwide and exports 80% of its products to over 130 countries. Covering a typical microbiology process

The process begins with the safe and sterile collection of samples using RollBag® bags, which have been specially developed for contamination-free handling. Sample preparation is then carried out by homogenization with the BagMixer®, a powerful laboratory mixer, in combination with the corresponding bags from the BagFilter®, BagPage® or BagLight® series, which are specially designed for different sample types and analysis requirements.
For standardized dilution, INTERSCIENCE relies on the DiluFlow® systems, which work gravimetrically and therefore offer maximum precision while saving time at the same time. As an option, this step can be supplemented with instaBAG® bags that already contain a dehydrated culture medium - a significant advantage for users who rely on efficiency and standardized media.
Building on this, easySpiral Dilute® enables automatic plating in a single step: dilution and uniform plating on Petri dishes are combined directly, which reduces manual errors and improves reproducibility. Precise filling of the dishes with culture media can be carried out in advance using the FlexiPump® - a compact dosing pump for precise volume control during media preparation.
The incubation of the inoculated plates is followed by the analysis, where INTERSCIENCE also scores with automation: the Scan® series takes over the automatic colony counting and - if required - the reading of inhibition zones. For even greater efficiency, the ScanStation® offers a real-time solution in which incubation and colony counting take place in parallel and continuously for the first time - a technological leap that significantly shortens the analysis period and enables early intervention in the QA process.

Scan Ai - Product availability since April 2025
Scan Ai was presented for the first time in April 2025 at the Forum Labo trade fair in Paris. The official market launch took place on April 18, 2025. Thanks to artificial intelligence, the counting accuracy is constant and 25% higher than with a conventional counter. The automatic counting ignores artifacts and records 100% of the plate. Artificial intelligence accurately detects and counts colonies while distinguishing between different types of microorganisms (bacteria, yeasts, moulds).
