Initial situation

CDC LAB specializes in the packaging, analysis, and release of pharmaceutical products, particularly in the field of medical cannabis. The company also develops compounded preparations and offers services to external partners. With increasing demands in packaging, it became clear that precise, reliable, and cost-effective weighing solutions were needed that could be seamlessly integrated into existing processes.

Solution

A&D FZ-3000i-EC Laboratory Balance
A&D BM-252 Laboratory Scale

Implemented in 2025 CDC LAB installed three A&D FZ-3000i-EC precision balances and one A&D BM-252 semi-microbalance with an integrated ionizer, including a weighing table and printers. The balances are designed for commercial use (Legal for Trade, LFT) and are calibrated for the specific geographic location.

These devices exemplify the strengths of A&D:

Experience report in an interview with Sylvain Melis from CDC LAB

Can you give an overview of your company's activities?

Sylvain Melis: Our company operates in the pharmaceutical sector, primarily in the packaging, analysis, and marketing of products, particularly in connection with the launch of medical cannabis-based products. In addition, we develop solutions for patients in the form of compounded medications. In addition, we offer services to third-party companies that entrust us with their raw materials (e.g., cannabis flowers) so that we can process and value-add them.

What types of tests or analyses are typically performed in your laboratory?

Sylvain Melis: In our laboratory, we mainly carry out the following activities:

  • Quality control analyses
  • In-vitro tests
  • PCR analyses for viral identification
  • as well as other standard analyses within the scope of our work

What was the initial situation in your laboratory that led you to look for a new balance?

Sylvain Melis: The need for a new scale arose primarily from our packaging activities, which require suitable and reliable equipment. The decision to purchase this scale was essentially based on price and the quality of the associated service.

What were your initial experiences with the devices?

Sylvain Melis: Even in current applications, the scales demonstrate clear strengths, particularly through their simple operation and quick, intuitive handling.

What recommendations would you give to other laboratories?

Sylvain Melis: It is important to choose the right laboratory balance for the specific application, especially with regard to minimum weighing quantities and different uses. Processes and requirements such as data integrity should also be considered early on.

Conclusion and added value

By using A&D scales, CDC LAB benefits from reliable and reproducible measurement results, more efficient workflows, and rapid integration without extensive training. At the same time, the robust device quality ensures a high level of investment security. A key advantage of A&D is its outstanding warranty period of up to 4 years – the longest among scale providers – which is exceptional compared to other manufacturers.

The partnership between VITARIS and CDC LAB demonstrates just how effective the combination of high-quality technology and exceptional service can be. With A&D Instruments, VITARIS offers a solution that combines quality, cost-effectiveness, and user-friendliness—thereby providing clear added value for laboratories that rely on precision and efficiency.
